I have spent much of the last month working really hard on breastfeeding. At Henry's 2 week appointment we found out he wasn't gaining weight well. Nothing REALLY concerning, but definitely something the doctor wants us to work on. We started adding formula bottles after I was feeding him to help him beef up a bit. I also started pumping between feedings to try and increase my milk supply - needless to say, it has been exhausting!
I have also been going to a weekly group meeting for breastfeeding moms at the hospital. It has been WONDERFUL. Not only is it nice to be around other new moms who are going through much of the same as I am, but there is a lactation consultant who facilitates the meetings who is awesome - she has really helped me identify a few things that will help my experience and help Henry nurse better. Like I said, we're working really hard on this, so I'm praying that all of these efforts will pay off and things will start to get more routine.
In the meantime, we've been having a lot of fun with Henry - enjoying his first outings, first tub bath, seeing him grow and become more interactive. He's been much more alert between feedings over the last week or two and has started to make faces/noises more regularly. He enjoys his swing and has started to lift his head (even though he doesn't hold it up for long, he's doing well!!)
Can't believe it's been a month already - here's to month #2!! Enjoy the pictures!
Oh my goodness!! Look at that head control and those curious eyes!! I love to see these pics but am sad I'm missing him grow.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Jules! I love, love, love the pictures and Henry's big, beautiful eyes :) Hang in there with breastfeeding...I don't think anyone is quite prepared for how time consuming it is. Love you!
ReplyDeleteHe's a beautiful baby! I'm excited to meet him!
